You have to deal with the challenge of applying for secondary school as well as preparing for taking Key Stage 2 SATS in May. There are also more responsibilities such as becoming: a school ambassador; a prefect; helping to run the library. Another great opportunity available is to become a member of the Steel Band.
An integral part of a successful Year 6 is a committed home school partnership, which will involve revision and homework tasks completed to a high standard. Your teachers will be available to give assistance where necessary (to both parents and children). A weekly homework club is run for Year 6. However, it is important for you to be an active learner and ensure you spend time working on your targets at home as well as in school.
At the start of the Autumn Term most of you will also have the opportunity to take part in a residential trip to Condover Hall in Shropshire, where you can develop team building skills and positive relationships which you will be able to use throughout Year 6 and in life beyond Primary School. Meanwhile, those who stay at school follow a programme of activities.
Transition to Secondary School
The beginning of the Summer Term sees the final preparations for SATS. However, our focus soon begins to turn to the transition from Primary to Secondary School. Sessions will include dealing with change, making sensible choices to avoid personal risk, travelling safely and puberty.
We also begin plans for the school's end of year production, with rehearsals beginning in earnest after May half term. All offers of help from you and your parents will be gratefully received during this time.
This can include expertise with prop construction, costumes, choreography, acting etc.
