Year 3
As well as the daily English, Maths and Guided Reading lessons, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, we also have a 20 minute phonics or comprehension lesson. Other subjects such as Science, History, Geography, ICT, PSHE, Art, Design and Technology, French, Music and RE are often studied through our cross-curricular topics: Stone age and Bronze age, Walk like an Egyptian and Tinga Tinga. These topics also link to the Power of Reading project when we learn through the texts of Pebble in my Pocket and Dear Ollie.
Each week the children will receive one piece of home learning to record in their home learning books. Although usually English and Maths, they will sometimes be other areas and should encourage the children to be creative and extend or consolidate learning. There is an expectation that every child will read a few pages of their chosen book each night and parents are asked to record this in their reading record books. As a school we award certificates for children who practise their reading daily.
