Woodside Primary School

Uniform

All children are expected to attend school in uniform.

Please see our school uniform policy below to find out about our approach to uniform expectations, including religious items, hairstyles, nail varnish and make-up, jewellery and more.

Please ensure you mark your child's clothing clearly with their name. Uniforms must consist of the following with no alternatives:

  • Grey or black tunic, skirt or trousers (short or full length, straight legged and 'tailored' - not 'skin hugging')- required
  • White shirt/polo shirt-required
  • Royal blue jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt*- required
  • In warmer weather, a blue gingham summer dress can be worn-optional
  • In colder weather, a blue fleece - optional
P.E.
  • Plain white PE t-shirt
  • Black / blue PE shorts
  • Plain black trainers or plimsolls
  • Plain black sweatshirt/hoodie and long trousers/leggings or tracksuit bottoms for outdoor PE in winter
  • Kit bag / drawstring back
  • No football kits or logos
  • Trunks / one-piece swimsuit with swimming cap and googles for swimming

For safety reasons, long trousers, tights and any jewellery have to be removed for PE lessons.

Your child's PE kit should be kept at school and taken home for washing every week (except for swimming).

Please note it is school policy that ALL children take part in PE.

Jewellery

Jewellery is generally not allowed in school for two main reasons: Firstly, if it is lost it is difficult to trace and causes a great deal of upset and, secondly, it is a constant source of accidents in schools. One exception to this rule is the small stud earrings. However, these should be very small and not protrude much from the ear lobe. Your support in this matter will be greatly appreciated and will help us in our constant efforts to ensure the children's safety at school.

Long hair

Long hair should be tied back at all times. Tramlines and Mohawk or other extreme haircuts are not permitted during termtime. Other fashion accessories such as nail varnish and make-up are not acceptable in school.

Footwear

Children must wear black school shoes; fashion boots are NOT acceptable. Boots may only be worn when the weather is wet. Please do not send your child to school in boots as they will be reminded that shoes should be worn. Trainers are also NOT acceptable. Please support us as we enforce this dress code to help all children look smart and school-ready.

All articles of clothing, bags, footwear etc., should be clearly marked with the owner's name. Watches should, if possible, have the owner's name engraved on the back and, if taken off, must be handed to a teacher for safekeeping.

Should you wish to purchase school jumpers and cardigans bearing the school logo, these can be purchased from our uniform provider Hewitts in Croydon. Alternatively, royal blue jumpers and cardigans can be purchased from most supermarkets or second-hand shops. This includes all items of school uniform, expensive or designer fashion is not a requirement of school uniform and often causes upset if these items are lost.

Smartwatches

Please note, we do not allow smartwatches in school. This means any watch that can take photos and send or receive any data with Internet compatibility.
